We often crave for long and
groomed nails. We tend to grow nails to
some extent, but due to mishandling it often ends up in breakage. Like hairs, nails are dead cells made up of
keratin. For its strength and growth, nails
also need balanced food. Much of the
length and strength comes from balanced diet.
Active fingers get much better nail growth. You might have seen that our hand nails grow
much faster when compared to that of toenails.
Let us have an outlook on how to safeguard our nails’ strength and
growth.
GOOD
HYGIENE
Keep your hands and nails clean
and dirt-free regularly. Practice good
and hygienic grooming. Clip your nails
regularly. Make sure not to hurt the
cuticle. This will give way to
infection.
OLIVE
OIL
Give a gentle massage to your
hands and nails with olive oil. Olive
oil contains vitamin E. It improves
blood circulation thereby provides strength to the nails. Massage your nails and cuticle thoroughly
with warm olive oil. Cover your nails
and hand with cotton gloves and repeat it daily. This will make your nails stronger and help
to grow faster.
COCONUT
OIL
Applying and massaging extra
virgin coconut oil to the nails is a great idea when it comes to moisturization. Coconut oil is perfect for cuticle health and
cures nail ridges. Coconut oil gets
absorbed easily by the nails and hence prevents fungal infections.
CARRIER
OILS OR BASE OILS
Carrier oils like jojoba,
almond, avocado and grapeseeds also do wonders when it comes to nail
health. You can apply these carrier oils
on the nails and hands before hitting the bed.
They moisturize the nails and cuticles.
They cure hang nails.
ESSENTIAL
OILS
Essential oils like lavender,
eucalyptus, Myrrh, and Rosemary oils can be used to achieve strong and glamorous
nails. Take a few drops of any one of the
essential oil and massage on to the nails and cuticles 2-3 times a week. You will notice visible strengthening of
nails and cuticles. It will add shine to
your dull nails.
HYDRATION
Generally, the nails are very porous,
so we need to be very cautious to keep them hydrated by drinking lot of water. Prolonged exposure of nails to water will
make the nails weaker and can cause splitting.
Always try to keep your nails dry.
NAIL
DIET
Proteins, vitamins, and minerals
are essential for nail growth. To
strengthen the nails, the diet should include nuts, dried fruits, vegetables,
water, fruits, zinc, eggs, salmon fish, coconut oil, spinach, omega-3 fatty
acids, carrots, lentils, wheat germ oil, avocado, and milk. You can see great results by following this
diet. You can also include Vitamin B,
biotin supplement in your diet. They do
wonders for nail growth.
DO’S
AND DON'TS FOR THE NAILS
Do not be harsh with the
nails. Your nails are delicate and be
gentle with them while scrubbing, scratching, etc. Nails are not your tools!!!!
Avoid biting your nails.
Brittle nail is caused by lack
of iron and abnormal thyroid function. Hence
make sure to include adequate amount of iron in your diet.
Choose a good quality nail
polish and a nail remover. Acetone-free
nail remover is recommended. Do not
overuse nail polishes.
Harsh chemicals in your
household products may even cause nail damage.
Hence, always make sure to clean your hands whenever you use such
products.
Nail health is much important
than its length. If you are the one who
often wear and tear your long nails, then better opt for the shorter length nails
with rounded edge. It is easy to manage.
