NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a complex autoimmune disease.  The skin cells grow at a very rapid rate in psoriatic condition and thus forms psoriatic lesions.  It is a chronic skin disorder in which you can usually see skin inflammation, redness and white silvery skin patches.  The skin patches are usually red, thick, dry, and scaly.  The psoriatic lesions may sometimes bleed in extreme condition.  These psoriatic patches are often seen in elbows, scalp, back, face, palm, skin folds, genitals, and soles of the feet.  Some patients with psoriasis may also develop arthritis.  Psoriatic arthritis can affect any joint in the body.

The cause of psoriasis is unknown, but still there are triggering factors such as overactive immune system, hormonal changes, vitamin D deficiency, stress, hereditary, and abnormal liver function.  Moreover, it is not contagious.  Relapse and remission in psoriasis is very common.  Complete cure for psoriasis is yet to be found, but there are natural remedies which will help reduce the psoriatic symptoms.

EPSOM SALT AND DEAD SEA SALTS

Warm baths with Epsom salt soak and dead sea salts are widely known for their healing properties, especially in psoriatic conditions.  Dead sea salts improve blood circulation.   It relieves redness and itchiness.   Epsom salt is rich in magnesium, which soothes and detoxify the scaly skin.  Once you get out of the shower, be sure to apply moisturizer.   This will lock moisture in the skin and helps to heal psoriatic patches.

EXERCISE AND WATER

The most effective ways to help heal the psoriasis is exercise and consuming enormous amount of fluids.  Exercise and physical activity are equally important in psoriasis to overall maintain healthy weight and lower the risk of other diseases that may pave way through psoriasis.

SUNLIGHT AND VITAMIN D

Psoriatic lesions can be eased with exposing the skin to sunlight.  It will also reduce inflammation and scaling of the skin.  Sun emits Ultraviolet B rays which slows down the rapid growth of skin cells, but make sure that it does not alter the pattern by causing more damage to the healthy skin.  Vitamin D in sunlight can help reduce the inflammation.  Vitamin D also helps in strong bone formation and to build good immune system.

ALOE VERA

Aloe vera can be applied to psoriatic patches to help reduce the inflammation.  Aloe vera will improve hydration and shows good soothing effect.  Aloe vera contains powerful anti-inflammatory agent.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Lavender oil, geranium oil, tea tree oil, castor oil can be used on the patchy skin.  These essential oils should be diluted with base oil like coconut oil, which in turn has an anti-inflammatory property.  Coconut oil is gentle to use and a good choice of moisturization.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Apple cider vinegar can be used for scalp itchiness.  It has good antiseptic and anti-itching properties.  It should not be applied on cracked or broken areas.  You can dilute apple cider vinegar with water and apply it on the scalp to soothe the itching.

PSORIATIC DIET

Following psoriatic diet is must.  Apart from normal healthy diet, psoriatic diet should include high fiber foods, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, milk, turmeric, zinc, aloe vera and probiotic foods such as yoghurt, curd, etc.  Avoid eating processed red meat, alcohol, fried foods, and caffeine.

ELIMINATE STRESS

Having psoriasis is stressful in itself, hence stress can cause flare-ups of symptoms.  Reducing stress is the key factor in psoriasis.  Stress and psoriasis often go hand in hand .  The more you stress, the more will be the aggravation.  Psoriasis can be naturally responded by stress management.   Try avoiding mental stress by meditation and yoga and it will surely combat psoriasis to a great extent.
