Delicious Ramadhan Special Porridge - a nutritious start





RAMADHAN SPECIAL PORRIDGE (Nombu Kanji) - RECIPE



Ramadhan Porridge is one of the traditional dish of muslims, especially during the month of Ramadhan fasting.  It is highly nutritious as it has proteins and carbohydrates.

Here comes the ingredients and the steps involved in the preparation of this delicious porridge.

INGREDIENTS:

·         Rice 150 gm
·         Moong dal (yellow split gram) – 25 gm (dry roast in a pan and keep aside)
·         Minced Meat  50 gm / green peas and carrot 50 gm finely chopped
·         Onion – medium size -  finely chopped
·         Tomato – medium size  -  chopped
·         Ginger garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
·         Green chillies – 2 nos.
·         Coriander leaves  - 2-3 twigs
·         Mint Leaves (Pudina) – 2-3 twigs
·         Turmeric powder – 1 Teaspoon
·         Garam Masala – ½ teaspoon
·         Coconut grated – 2 teaspoon
·         Salt as required
·         Refined Oil - 25 ml
·         Water – 600 ml

·       Cooking time 30 minutes

Serves -  5

Steps:

1.  Pour refined oil in a thick-bottom pan and heat it on a medium flame.  Add Garam masala powder to the oil.

2.  Now add onion and salt to the pan and close the lid for 5 mins.  Stir the onion till it turns to golden brown.  Add ginger garlic paste and saute it continuously for 5 minutes till the raw smell of the paste is gone. 

3.  Add tomato to this and stir it continuously for 10 minutes.  Add turmeric powder and stir it well.  After 5 minutes, add minced meat or vegetables (carrot and green peas).  Close the lid for 5 minutes.  Open the lid and stir it well until all the ingredients are well mixed.  Leave it on low flame until it leaves out oil. 

4.  Now add green chillies, mint and coriander leaves, and stir it well.  Now add water to it and allow it to boil.  Once it is boiled, add rice and moong dal to it and stir well.  Now transfer the contents to a pressure cooker.  Close the pressure cooker lid and leave it for 10 minutes.

5.  Open the lid and sprinkle the grated coconut and stir it well.  Season it with some Coriander leaves.

Delicious Ramadhan porridge is ready to serve hot.
